Victorian Gold Prospector is an independent research and field-planning tool. We keep this simple: we collect as little as possible, and we don't sell anything about you.

What the app stores

The map app runs in your browser. Information you create in the app — such as logged finds, a saved vehicle/base location, or your chosen map settings — is stored locally on your own device, in your browser. It is not uploaded to us by default, and we cannot see it.

If you clear your browser data, that locally stored information is removed.

Location

Some features (such as saving your vehicle location or showing your position) ask your browser for your GPS location. This happens only when you choose to use those features, and your browser will ask your permission first. Your location is used on your device to power those features and is not sent to us.

Hosting and basic logs

This site and app are hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. Like most web hosts, Firebase may record standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, for security and to keep the service running. This is standard server logging, not tracking by us.

Email updates

If you email us to join project updates, we keep your email address only to send occasional project news. You can ask to be removed at any time by emailing us. We don't share or sell email addresses.

Ask the Prospector and AI features

Some guidance features may send your typed question to a processing service to generate a response. Don't include personal or sensitive information in questions. These features are for general research guidance only.

Children

This tool is intended for general audiences interested in goldfields research and history. It is not directed at children.

A note on accuracy and safety

Historic records and map data are provided for research and field-planning only. They do not guarantee gold, and locations may be approximate. Always check current land access laws, respect private property, and follow safety guidance before heading into the field.
