⚠ Important: This app supports safer prospecting — it does NOT replace emergency services, a registered PLB, Emergency+ app, or satellite messenger. In a real emergency, call 000 first. Always carry a registered GPS-equipped Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) in remote areas — they work without phone signal and are monitored 24/7 by AMSA.

PLB Reminder: A registered Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is the only device that guarantees rescue coordination in remote areas without phone coverage. Register yours free at beaconregistry.amsa.gov.au. Also install Emergency+ (free, shows triple zero operators your exact GPS coordinates).

Mine ShaftsVictorian goldfields contain thousands of unmarked open shafts — many hidden by vegetation. Never walk backwards. Never approach shaft edges. Never enter old workings. Keep children and dogs away from all shaft areas.
SnakesEastern browns, tiger snakes, and copperheads are common in Victorian goldfields especially Oct–April. Wear thick boots and long pants. Watch where you step. If bitten: apply pressure bandage, do NOT wash, call 000 immediately.
Bites & StingsJack jumper ants (anaphylaxis risk), European wasps nesting in old burrows, and redbacks under old tin are all common on the diggings. Wear gloves flipping iron and rocks, check the ground before kneeling, and carry antihistamines — EpiPen if you have a known allergy. Full species guide: Explore → Bush Wildlife.
Heat & DehydrationCarry minimum 3 litres water per person per day in summer. Start early, finish by midday on hot days. Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion — dizziness, nausea, stopping sweating. Shade and hydration immediately.
Fire DangerCheck the CFA fire danger rating before heading out. On days of Total Fire Ban detecting in State Forest may be restricted. Always identify your escape route before you start. Check emergency.vic.gov.au and VicEmergency app.
WeatherCheck BOM forecast before leaving. Flash flooding can occur in gully country with little warning. If water begins rising in any creek — move to high ground immediately. Do not attempt to cross flooded creeks.
Rough TerrainOld diggings create uneven ground, hidden holes, and unstable banks. Wear ankle-supporting boots. Tell someone your location. Carry a first aid kit including compression bandages.
No Phone SignalMost remote goldfield areas have limited or no mobile coverage. Download offline maps before you leave. Save GPS coordinates. Carry a PLB or satellite messenger for communication outside coverage areas.
Vehicle PreparationCheck tyre pressure, fuel, and water before remote trips. Carry a spare tyre, recovery tracks, jump starter, and basic tools. Let someone know your vehicle description and planned return time.
This app does not guarantee your safety. Safety Mode provides helpful tools to support safer prospecting but is NOT a substitute for: a registered PLB, Emergency+ app, proper preparation, telling someone your plans, or common sense. In any emergency call 000.

Welcome to AI Prospector
Your AI-powered field companion for Victorian gold prospecting. Here's how to plan a trip:
1
Browse goldfields — pan the map to any Victorian goldfield. Turn on layers like nugget records, geology, and prospectivity zones from the sidebar.
2
Zoom into your area — the closer you zoom, the more detail loads. Target intelligence, historical workings, and creek lines appear at closer zoom levels.
3
Ask Rusty — tap the chat icon and ask anything about the ground you're looking at. The AI reads your location and gives field-specific advice.
4
Export before you go — hit Field Prep under Tools to save your map as PNG, PDF, or GPX waypoints before you lose reception.
